Development
Tidal Sails is currently in the phase of pilot testing
our technology which has already been validated by a range
of theoretical and numerical studies. Since May 2007, we
are operating a pilot test facility in a real, challenging
tidal current, testing a scaled down prototype of the key
mechanical elements of the new power plant.
The next phase of our ongoing development includes a large
scale demonstration plant spanning a 200 metre wide tidal
stream.
This facility will be grid connected, with fully dimensioned
sails.
The test sites are corner stones in our on-going three
year development program to qualify the new technology
for the world wide market in tidal stream power.
After qualification and certification, power plants
will be offered to local communities, developer consortia,
and power companies. For one typical tidal stream site, a
full commercial plant with 10 strings,each 1000 m long,
could yield 200 to 300 GWh clean renewable electricity annually,
at a cost considerably lower than any competitive device.
